Mike appointed in strategic role
Former Hampshire Supporting People Commissioner Mike Chambers has been appointed as Assistant Director for Health and Wellbeing for YOU, the social care organisation based in Portsmouth. The strategic appointment for the organisation, which employs over 450 staff, will see Mike sit on the new senior management team and head up mental health, learning and physical disability services. He will be responsible for ensuring high service levels are met, as well as growing the organisation through the submission of tenders and new and innovative revenue streams. Mike’s career in social care spans 15 years, starting as a Support Worker in a homeless hostel in Southampton in his early years, through to a Development Manager at Stonham Housing Association and later, the Head of Housing at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Nicola Youern, Chief Executive of YOU, said: “Mike has an unrivalled understanding of our market place. He has strong strategic relationships with many commissioners and has innovative ideas on how to gear YOU in readiness for the Personalisation Agenda – which is pivotal to the growth of this organisation. Having worked with us in the past, he also understands and shares our values, which is critical to us.” Mike, who in his spare time likes to be with his young family, said: “YOU is an organisation which plays a vital role in the community and I am looking forward to implementing my ideas and working closely with the team here to make a real difference to people’s lives.”
