Celebrity chef gets a Dorset charity cooking

Lesley Waters in Dorset

Young people, aged 18 to 25, received a lunchtime treat when Lesley Waters, star of BBC’s ‘Can’t Cook Won’t Cook’, visited their accommodation service in Bridport, Dorset to share her culinary skills and inspire them to cook with fresh, healthy produce.

Lesley Waters, a resident of West Dorset, met with some of the 17 young people who reside at West Rivers House, a service for young people who have experienced homelessness, unemployment or a chaotic upbringing.  The celebrity chef chatted to the residents about their favourite foods and ‘kitchen nightmares’, before visiting the kitchen and whipping up a feast of homemade lamb burgers, bread rolls and fresh salsa sauce.

Lesley, who was invited to meet with the young residents by the manager of the service Andrew Cosma, said: “It was a lovely day. The young people I met expressed some real enthusiasm and it was good to get a few of them in the kitchen and show them how simple it is to create a tasty, nutritious and cost-effective meal.”

"Lesley is as bubbly in real life as she is on the TV and everyone had a great time,"  said Andrew, "it’s hard for some young people to trust a stranger straight away but Lesley really made them feel at ease."

"I had a really good morning. The burgers were delicious," said one of the budding young chefs, "I don’t usually eat tomatoes but the way that Leslie cooked them was lovely.  This has definitely changed my view of cooking for myself."

The young people’s service at West Rivers House is run by the south coast charity YOU which run a number of similar services across the county, and it is hope that Lesley will get involved with the organisation’s 25th anniversary from April onwards.
